Kutxaespacio Encounter

The ATOM BY ATOM programme features an interactive session involving school children, two Nobel Prize winners and Professor Pedro Miguel Etxenike. This activity is sponsored by the Science kutxaEspacio, with the support of the Department of Education, Universities and Research of the Basque Government via the Suspertu project.

The session is geared towards Physics & Chemistry teachers and students of the 2009/10 term in 4th year of secondary education and 1st and 2nd year of high school reading physics & chemistry.


Part one: Presentations to be given by Professors Heinrich Röhrer, Sir Harold Kroto and Pedro Miguel Etxenike on their personal background and experience as scientists.

Coffee break.

Part two: Student's time for questions to the three scientists.

VENUE: The Science kutxaEspacio in Donostia-San Sebastián.

Sir Harold Kroto

is on faculty at Florida State University, since 2004. Prior to that he spent a large part of his working career at the University of Sussex, where he holds an emeritus professor- ship. Sir Harold Kroto was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996along with Robert F. Curl Jr. and Richard E. Smalley for the discovery of fullerenes.

Heinrich Rohrer

studied Experimental Physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ). In 1963, after two years as post-doc in the USA, he joined IBMZurich Research Laboratory. Prof. Rohrer was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1986 along with Gerd Binnig for his work on Scanning Tunneling Microscopy.
